Chalcides

Genus of skinks that inhabit Asia and the Mediterranean and bear live young.

Chalcides skinks have bony plates on the head and body, a scaly and feebly nicked tongue, elongated and sometimes snakelike body, with the limbs absent or little developed, and the lower eyelid has a transparent disc. C.ocellatus attains a length of about 25 cm/10 in.
